OMAR ABORIDA
TAPE RITUALS
Omar Aborida and Scott William Urqhuart
Tape Rituals are pleased to announce the release of a film we produced with the Stirling based fingerstyle guitarist Scott William Urquhart. This film will be the first in our Incantations series exploring the places and practices which inspire artists around Scotland.
Scott's free flowing guitar music is reminiscent of the likes of John Fahey and Leo Kottke and his debut album 'A Recipe For Reverie' was released to critical acclaim in 2020. In the film we connect with Scott to film performance footage alongside conversations on his inspirations and connection to his local area.
The project was funded by Scene Stirling and is set to be premiered on Friday 22nd of October at 6pm via www.scenestirling.com
PROJECT SUMMARY
Omar will be working with a local musician to produce a film which combines performance footage with interview segments with the aim to provide an opportunity for them to engage further with their local community especially during this time of restrictions.
The film sets out to introduce connections to the local area by combining live performance footage from significant locations in their locality with conversational interview footage providing context and giving an opportunity for the artist to share the experiences which inspires and formed their career.
The concept for the film series came about through my own experience of the pandemic and lockdown halting my touring activities, combined with the feeling that some Scottish musicians' careers are reliant on an outside audience and many are scarcely known within their local communities despite touring and reaching out to an international audience. Video has become an important medium for communication at a time when separation is essential and I felt this was an ideal vehicle for an artist's story to be told.
