the doune creative network
what is The Doune Creative Network
a series of explorative creative projects in Doune, led by a group of creatives based locally or with a particular interest in the area
Scene Stirling's Community programme has seen a very successful first phase in the Bannockburn and East Stirling area, with the Vantage Points project in 2021/22. Building on the success of the project, and the wider activities around community engagement led by the Kilmadock Development Trust, Kilmadock Community Council, and Historic Environment Scotland - Doune Castle, the Doune, Deanston and Thornhill area has been identified as the next focus of this programme.
A network of artists has been working with the local communities to test and develop meaningful creative activities over the past few months, with a first pilot event that took place on Saturday 23rd April as part of the ‘Doune Together’ community celebration. This evolved into a collaboration with Doune Primary School for a joint creative project and an exhibition trail, with a community day of free activities for everyone.
On Sunday 25th September, participants were able to follow the Doune Primary School exhibition trail, take part in a photography and storytelling walk, and try some painting, metal working and creative mapmaking, with activities taking place between the Rural Hall and Moray Park.
Artists Amanda Edmiston, Peter Yates, Frankie Burr, and Roberta Pederzoli worked with the pupils at Doune Primary School during the Autumn term 2022 on a creative project called ‘A Child of Their Time’. Pupils from all classes experimented creatively with storytelling, drawing, painting, metal working, collaging, mapmaking and visual composition. The result was an exciting body of work that was displayed across 13 venues in Doune, starting from Sunday 25th September, as part of a village-wide exhibition trail. After the exhibition, the artwork was installed for permanent display within the school.
Participating venues included: Information and Heritage Centre, Woodside Pharmacy, Willow Houseplants, MOYA Soul &Skin, The Collective Hair & Beauty, Woodlane of Doune, Simply Sarah's, The Natural Choice, Harvey Maps, The Desirable Curio, Co-op, Roots Cycles, Doune Ponds
